After the cops-vs-cops drama in the Rahul Gandhi video case, a news anchor was detained

After the channel aired a false Rahul Gandhi video for which it later apologised, a Zee TV news presenter named Rohit Ranjan was detained by the police today from his house outside of Delhi.

A dramatic video depicted an altercation and shoving as the Chhattisgarh police attempted to detain the anchor and the Ghaziabad police intervened to take him away. When the Chhattisgarh police arrived at his residence around 5.30 am, Rohit Ranjan tweeted an SOS to the Uttar Pradesh police, alleging that the neighbourhood police were not alerted. According to the Chhattisgarh police, as long as a warrant is in place, no one must be informed.

The Chhattisgarh team attempted to arrest him, but the Ghaziabad police intervened and hauled him away. He is currently being held by the UP police and is being investigated on far less serious accusations.

Soon after Rohit Ranjan played a statement made by Rahul Gandhi regarding an attack on his office in Wayanad, Kerala, on his show and allegedly used it as commentary on the murderers of the Udaipur tailor, cases were filed against the TV host in the states of Rajasthan and Chhattisgarh.

BJP politicians like Rajyavardhan Rathore, who has also been booked in a FIR, shared the video.

The network issued an apology, and Mr. Ranjan stated during his programme that “yesterday, in our show DNA, Rahul Gandhi’s statement was taken in the wrong context by relating it to the Udaipur event. It was a human error for which our team apologises.”

Rahul Gandhi was alluding to the attack on his Wayanad office, according to Rajasthan Chief Minister Ashok Gehlot “The kids who did this were reckless in their actions. Please pardon them; they are young.” The way the TV station and the host played the film, however, gave the impression that Rahul Gandhi was stating that those who killed Kanhaiya Lal in Udaipur were children and should be pardoned, according to Mr. Gehlot. Rahul Gandhi tweeted, reportedly in reference to the false video: “Everybody in the nation is aware of the BJP-past RSS’s and how they are stirring up animosity. The Congress will continue to work harder to reunite India despite the traitors’ best efforts to divide it.”
