Akhilesh Yadav Accuses BJP of Planning Bahraich Violence Amid Election Tensions

Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav has alleged that the recent violence in Bahraich was orchestrated by the ruling Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) ahead of the state elections. The unrest, which erupted after a man, Ram Gopal Mishra, was shot dead during a religious procession, led to widespread arson, vandalism, and internet suspension in the region. Yadav, addressing the media in Mainpuri, stated that the violence was part of a premeditated strategy by the BJP.

The incident, which occurred on October 13, was sparked by a dispute over loud music being played near a place of worship in Maharajganj. This quickly escalated into communal clashes, resulting in the torching of shops, vehicles, and a hospital. As of October 18, the UP police had registered at least 11 FIRs and arrested 87 individuals in connection with the violence. Two men accused of Mishra’s murder were injured during an encounter with police while attempting to flee to Nepal.

Authorities in Uttar Pradesh have initiated a demolition drive in the affected area, targeting properties linked to the violence. A number of officials, including a station house officer, were suspended following the unrest, while others were reassigned. The Allahabad High Court has given residents more time to respond to the demolition notices, with the next hearing scheduled for October 23.
