Amanatullah Khan Questioned by ED in Delhi Waqf Board Case

Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) MLA Amanatullah Khan was interrogated for 13 hours by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection to alleged irregularities in appointments at the Delhi Waqf Board. The questioning took place just hours after AAP leaders claimed Khan had been arrested, denouncing it as part of a “political conspiracy.” Previously, the ED had requested Khan’s presence after he missed an initial summons, leading to a complaint being filed on April 5.

Khan, speaking after his release, stated his compliance with the court’s directive to respond to the ED’s queries, confirming his need to submit additional documents later. The ED accuses him of illegal staff recruitment, resulting in substantial illicit gains, which were purportedly used to acquire properties through his aides. Although not named in the initial chargesheet that involved three of his associates, the agency has linked several properties directly to Khan.

In 2022, Khan faced arrest by the Anti-Corruption Branch (ACB) on charges of arbitrary recruitment, misappropriation of funds, and unauthorized renting of Waqf Board properties. During searches linked to these allegations, authorities reportedly found Rs 24 lakh in cash and two unlicensed firearms. The ongoing legal challenges follow a 2016 complaint from the revenue department, leading to a 2020 FIR under various sections of the IPC and the Prevention of Corruption Act.
