Amit Shah Defends Contentious Laws Amidst Foreign Media Criticism

Union Home Minister Amit Shah has vociferously defended the Indian government’s controversial policies and laws, notably the ban on triple talaq, the revocation of Article 370, and the Citizenship Amendment Act (CAA), in response to scrutiny from foreign media. Critics and international outlets have labeled these measures as potentially discriminatory against Muslims, sparking widespread debate. In a pointed remark during an interview with ANI, Shah challenged the foreign media’s perspective by questioning the existence of similar laws and provisions in their countries.

The government’s legislative actions have ignited significant controversy and debate within and outside India. The ban on triple talaq was seen by some as an intrusion into personal laws and religious practices, while the abrogation of Article 370, which revoked the special status of Jammu and Kashmir, and the implementation of the CAA, which offers citizenship to persecuted minorities from select countries but excludes Muslims, have been criticized for undermining India’s secular constitution.
