Salman Khan Hails Kiran Rao’s “Laapataa Ladies,” Mistakenly Calls It Her Directorial Debut

In a heartfelt shoutout on X, formerly known as Twitter, Bollywood superstar Salman Khan praised Kiran Rao’s latest film “Laapataa Ladies,” inadvertently referring to it as her directorial debut. Despite Rao’s actual debut occurring with the critically acclaimed “Dhobi Ghat” in 2011, Khan’s commendation highlighted his admiration for the film and expressed a keen interest in collaborating with Rao. “Just saw Kiran Rao’s Laapataa Ladies. Wah wah Kiran. I really enjoyed it and so did my father. Congrats on your debut as a director, superb job. Kab kaam karogi mere saath (When will you work with me),” Khan posted, unaware of his factual oversight.

The internet was quick to remind the Bollywood icon of Rao’s directorial journey, pointing out her debut with “Dhobi Ghat” over a decade ago, a film for which Khan himself was present at the premiere. Fans and followers on X took to the platform to correct the oversight, highlighting Rao’s accomplished filmography, including her roles in producing hits like “Peepli Live,” “Delhi Belly,” “Talaash,” and “Laal Singh Chaddha.”

“Laapataa Ladies,” released on March 1, marks another feather in Rao’s cap, with the film set against the backdrop of rural India. It narrates the intriguing tale of two brides separated during a train journey, leading to a complex sequence of events. Co-produced by Aamir Khan Productions and Kindling Productions, the movie boasts a talented cast, including Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Ravi Kishan, and Chhaya Kadam, and has been receiving acclaim for its storytelling and direction.
