Bomb Threat Prompts Early Closure of 60+ Delhi Schools; Searches Yield Nothing
Multiple schools in Delhi and Noida were evacuated in response to receiving bomb threats via email. Police are currently on-site conducting extensive searches, yet no suspicious items have been discovered thus far.
Delhi Police spokesperson Suman Nalwa assured parents that appropriate measures were being taken and urged them not to panic, emphasizing that no evidence of danger had been found.
Efforts to trace the source of the threatening email, including locating its IP address, are underway, though authorities have not yet been successful in identifying the sender or origin.
Police described the incident as a malicious act aimed at causing panic, with the cyber cell unit also involved in efforts to track the email and its source.
Among the schools affected were Sanskriti School in Chanakyapuri, Mother Mary School in Mayur Vihar, and Delhi Public School in Dwarka. Nearly 60 other schools reportedly received similar threatening emails throughout the morning.
Mother Mary School, in the midst of conducting an exam, had to halt proceedings and initiate evacuation procedures. Delhi Public School promptly informed parents of the threat via email and sent students home as a precautionary measure.
Local police coordinated the evacuation of affected schools, with concerned parents seen rushing to collect their children. Bomb detection teams, bomb disposal squads, and officials from the Delhi Fire Service were deployed to the scene.
As a precaution, some schools not directly threatened also released students early. Delhi’s education minister, Atishi, confirmed the events, stating that no suspicious items had been found in any of the schools searched.
She reassured parents and citizens to remain calm, emphasizing ongoing coordination between police and schools. This incident follows a similar hoax threat at Delhi Police School in RK Puram in February.
