Boohoo/Debenhams to Create Over 1,200 Jobs at Burnley Hub

Boohoo/Debenhams Group is set to create more than 1,200 jobs as it returns its fulfilment operations to its Burnley distribution hub through a new partnership with GXO Logistics. The move, expected to take place early next year, follows the £90 million sale of the group’s Sheffield distribution site to Primark.

GXO, the world’s largest pure-play contract logistics provider, has already begun recruiting for positions at the Burnley facility, which it will manage under a global distribution agreement. The site previously employed around 1,250 people before closing last autumn as part of the group’s efficiency drive, which consolidated operations at Sheffield.

Debenhams Group CEO Dan Finley said Burnley had played an important role in the company’s history, serving as its primary distribution centre for more than a decade. He expressed optimism about combining the group’s experience in the town with GXO’s fulfilment expertise to support future growth. Meanwhile, Primark’s acquisition of the Sheffield hub comes as the retailer prepares to expand into online sales in the UK.
