Congress Spokesperson Gourav Vallabh Resigns Citing Party’s ‘Lack of Direction’

In a surprising move, Professor Gourav Vallabh, a prominent national spokesperson for the Congress party, announced his resignation on Thursday, citing a profound discomfort with the party’s current trajectory and ideologies. Vallabh, who has been a familiar face in television debates representing Congress, expressed his concerns over the party’s stance on various issues, including its approach towards the ‘Sanatan’ and the economic policies surrounding wealth creation in India. His resignation came through a detailed post on X, where he voiced his inability to align with what he perceives as the party’s directionless approach and its deviation from the fundamental principles of Congress.

Vallabh’s grievances extend to the party’s silence on remarks made against the ‘Sanatan’ by party leaders and its position on the Ram Mandir issue, which he discussed in an interview with the news agency PTI. He criticized the Congress for seemingly opposing Hindu society while promoting a caste-based census, a stance he believes sends a misleading message to the public about the party’s religious affiliations. This, according to Vallabh, contravenes the core values of the Congress party.

The former spokesperson also lamented the party’s shift away from policies of economic liberalization, privatization, and globalization, which he argued had previously earned India significant acclaim. By turning against these economic policies, Vallabh feels the Congress has failed to constructively contribute to the country’s economic discourse, a factor that played a part in his decision to resign from all positions and primary membership of the party. This decision follows his unsuccessful bid in the 2023 Rajasthan assembly elections, where he lost to a BJP candidate by approximately 32,000 votes.
