Dalit Man Assaulted, Forced to Apologize by Holding Footwear in Mouth Over Salary Dispute in Morbi, Gujarat

A disturbing incident unfolded in Morbi, Gujarat, as a 21-year-old Dalit man, Nilesh Dalsaniya, faced a brutal assault allegedly orchestrated by businesswoman Vibhuti Patel and several others. Dalsaniya, employed by Raniba Industries Pvt Ltd, endured a fortnight of work before an abrupt termination on October 18. His pursuit of owed wages led to a harrowing confrontation on Wednesday when he visited Patel’s office accompanied by his brother and neighbor. Instead of a resolution, the encounter turned violent, with Patel’s brother and accomplices assaulting the trio, dragging Dalsaniya to the terrace, and subjecting him to physical abuse.

The assault escalated as Dalsaniya was allegedly forced to hold Patel’s footwear in his mouth and apologize for requesting his pending salary. Reports indicate threats of dire consequences if he returned to the area and coercive tactics, including filming a video where he was compelled to fabricate claims of extortion. Severely injured in the altercation, Dalsaniya was rushed to Morbi Civil Hospital for treatment. Police confirmed the registration of a case under several charges, including assault, criminal intimidation, and violations under the SC/ST (Prevention of Atrocities) Act against Patel, her brother, manager, and unidentified associates involved in the assault.

Despite the gravity of the incident, no arrests have been made yet, as investigations persist into the shocking assault. This disturbing event sheds light on the plight of individuals facing violence and coercion, emphasizing the pressing need for swift justice and protection of workers’ rights. The reprehensible nature of the assault and the intimidation tactics employed underscore the urgency of addressing such injustices within society, urging authorities to expedite the investigation and ensure accountability for those responsible.
