Daring action by railroad personnel saves a life
On Thursday, the Ministry of Railways published a video showing one of its employees saving a life just in time. Railway employee H. Satish Kumar can be seen waving a green flag to an approaching goods train in the 24-second CCTV footage from the Balichak railway station in West Bengal’s Paschim Medinipur district.
A person is laying on the tracks when Kumar is about to turn away from the platform. Kumar sprints over to the man and leaps onto the tracks. Then, he lifts him up and drags him to the area between the tracks. A train soon after passes by them. Both Kumar and the man he saved would have been run over by the train if he had simply taken a few further seconds to react. It’s unclear if the man intentionally jumped onto the railway or fell.
While sharing this video on their Twitter account, the Ministry of Railways tweeted, “सेवा, सुरक्षा और सहयोग A precious life was saved by the courageous act of help by on-duty staff, who jumped on tracks himself to save a person from getting gravely injured. Indian Railways is proud to have daring & diligent staff like H. Satish Kumar and commends his bravery.”
“Well-done Satish Kumar, Request @AshwiniVaishnaw ji to pls Reward him for this act of bravery,” a Twitter user said in praise of Kumar’s quick response.
