Delhi Air Quality Likely To Improve In 3 Days, But Will Remain “Very Poor”

Due to unfavourable weather circumstances, Delhi’s air quality remained poor for a second day in a row on Tuesday. Pollution levels are expected to improve over the next several days, according to forecasting organisations.

After a lapse of around two months, the city’s air quality index worsened to the “severe” category on Monday, prompting the Commission for Air Quality Management (CAQM) to order all NCR states to more aggressively apply anti-pollution regulations.

At 4 pm on Tuesday, Delhi’s 24-hour average air quality index (AQI) was 407 points. On Monday, it was 434 and on Sunday, it was 371. An AQI of 201 to 300 is categorised as “poor,” 301 to 400 as “extremely poor,” and 401 to 500 as “severe.”

In response to the deteriorating air quality, the Delhi administration on Monday placed a temporary ban on BS-III petrol and BS-IV diesel four-wheelers in the nation’s capital. A prohibition on private construction and demolition work was among the curbs the CAQM put in place on Friday as part of stage 3 of the Graded Response Action Plan.
