Delhi Announces ₹1000 Monthly Aid for Women Above 18 Under Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana
In a significant move towards women’s empowerment, Delhi Finance Minister Atishi, during the Delhi assembly on Monday, unveiled the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana as part of the budget for the fiscal year 2024-25. Under this pioneering scheme, the AAP government has pledged to provide a monthly financial aid of ₹1000 to every woman over the age of 18 residing in the national capital. This initiative, inspired by the concept of Ram Rajya, aims to foster a more inclusive and supportive environment for women’s welfare and empowerment.
The announcement was made amidst the presentation of the 10th budget by the Arvind Kejriwal government, which boasts an overall outlay of ₹76,000 crore. A substantial portion of the budget, amounting to ₹2,714 crore, has been allocated specifically for the successful rollout of the Mukhyamantri Mahila Samman Yojana. This allocation underscores the government’s commitment to ensuring the scheme reaches all eligible women, promoting their financial independence and societal participation.
While the detailed criteria and commencement date of the scheme are yet to be disclosed, it is anticipated to kick off following the Lok Sabha elections scheduled for April-May. Eligibility is extended to all women above 18, subject to their status as registered voters and not being beneficiaries of any other pension scheme or government employees. This scheme represents a significant step towards enhancing the socio-economic status of women in Delhi, aiming to empower them with financial autonomy and dignity.
