Delhi GAD Denies Minister Atishi Permission to Hoist National Flag on Independence Day
The General Administration Department (GAD) of Delhi has refused to authorize Delhi Minister Atishi to hoist the national flag on Independence Day, as per Chief Minister Arvind Kejriwal’s request. The GAD emphasized that there is a prescribed procedure for the Independence Day celebration, and any deviation could compromise the event’s sanctity. Chief Minister Kejriwal is currently in judicial custody due to a money laundering case.
In response to the denial, Atishi indirectly criticized Delhi’s Lieutenant Governor VK Saxena, referring to him as a “new viceroy” and asserting that the elected government of Delhi should have the right to unfurl the national flag. Earlier, Minister Gopal Rai had directed the GAD to make arrangements for Atishi to hoist the flag, but GAD’s additional chief secretary, Navin Kumar Chaudhary, deemed Kejriwal’s direction “legally invalid.”
