Delhi HC Reserves Verdict on BRS Leader K Kavitha’s Bail Plea in Liquor Policy Case

The Delhi High Court has reserved its verdict on Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS) leader K Kavitha’s petition seeking bail in cases related to the Delhi liquor excise policy. The decision was reserved by a bench of Justice Swarana Kanta Sharma. Kavitha’s plea argued that the investigation by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) and Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) was compromised.

Kavitha, who was arrested by the ED on March 15 and by the CBI on April 11, remains in judicial custody in Tihar Jail. Her bail application had been previously denied by a city court, which found a “prima facie” case indicating her involvement in money laundering in connection to the Delhi excise policy case. The ED has opposed her bail plea, accusing her of destroying evidence.

In rejecting her bail, the city court noted that Kavitha appeared to be a key conspirator in the collection and payment of upfront money to the Aam Aadmi Party (AAP) for favorable provisions in the excise policy. The High Court’s decision on her bail plea is now awaited following the reservation of the verdict.
