Delhi Police Investigate Doctored Video of Home Minister Amit Shah

Delhi Police have initiated an investigation following the circulation of a manipulated video on social media, falsely depicting India’s Union Home Minister, Amit Shah, advocating for the removal of reservation quotas for SCs, STs, and OBCs. The video has triggered widespread controversy and allegations of misinformation, leading to a First Information Report (FIR) being filed by the Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA). The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has condemned the video, stating it has been edited to distort Shah’s comments regarding reservations for Muslims in Telangana.

BJP spokesperson Amit Malviya clarified that the video was altered to misrepresent Shah’s remarks about eliminating unconstitutional reservations for Muslims based on religion, a statement originally made during a political rally. Malviya accused the Congress of distributing this “completely fake” video, which he claimed could incite significant violence. He warned that legal action might be pursued against those spreading the misleading content.

The controversy has intensified as various social media accounts, including those affiliated with Congress, shared the edited video, suggesting it exposed the BJP’s intent to abolish reservations for SC/ST communities. This has sparked sharp criticism from BJP leaders, who argue that Congress is disseminating false information to stir social unrest. The IFSO Unit of the Delhi Police Special Cell is now meticulously examining the origins of the fake video to identify and act against those responsible for its creation and distribution.
