DMK Minister V Senthil Balaji’s Bail Plea Rejected by Supreme Court Over Money Laundering Case

The Supreme Court declined to entertain the bail plea of DMK minister V Senthil Balaji, who was apprehended by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) in connection with a money laundering case. Seeking bail on health grounds, Mr. Balaji faced dismissal of his plea by the Madras High Court earlier in October, citing concerns that his release might influence witnesses. Justices Bela M Trivedi and SC Sharma, after reviewing health reports, found no grave health conditions, advising Balaji to pursue regular bail through the trial court.

The apex court clarified that any interim observations against the petitioner in the bail plea would not obstruct future filings for regular bail. As the bench signaled reluctance to proceed, the plea was withdrawn and dismissed accordingly. Earlier, the court had directed Balaji to submit his medical reports, which seemingly did not indicate a health condition requiring release on bail.

Arrested on June 14 by the ED in connection with a cash-for-jobs scam during his tenure as the Transport Minister in the preceding AIADMK regime, V Senthil Balaji’s attempt to secure bail on health grounds faced rejection, directing him to pursue further legal recourse through the trial court.
