EssilorLuxottica to Launch Wearable Device Production at Italy’s Agordo Plant

EssilorLuxottica has announced the pilot launch of its first production lines dedicated to wearable devices in Italy, marking a significant step in the company’s expansion into smart technology manufacturing. The initiative will begin in the second half of the year and will focus on the group’s historic Agordo plant, where an entire production area will be converted for the new industrial activities and is expected to be fully operational by early 2027.

Commenting on the development, EssilorLuxottica Chairman and CEO Francesco Milleri described the move as a strategic industrial decision for both the company and the local region. He emphasized that the ambitious project requires specialized expertise, a strong supply chain, and an innovation-driven ecosystem. Milleri highlighted the importance of collaboration among the company, employees, trade unions, and institutions to create an integrated network that combines technology, talent, and manufacturing capabilities while strengthening the group’s leadership in a rapidly growing sector.

The investment in facilities, machinery, and workforce development forms part of the roadmap established through agreements between EssilorLuxottica and trade unions aimed at enhancing the competitiveness of Italian factories and reinforcing the value of “Made in Italy” manufacturing. Union leaders Marco Falcinelli, Sebastiano Tripoli, and Daniela Piras welcomed the initiative, stating that it demonstrates how innovation, research, and advanced manufacturing can thrive in Italy. They stressed the need for continued investment in training, skills development, and quality employment to ensure that technological progress delivers both industrial growth and broader social benefits for the region.
