Flipkart is penalised by the CCPA for selling pressure cookers that are of poor quality

Any product found to be inferior in quality is considered unusable and withdrawn from the market. Selling and producing such products is legally a crime in the country. Online shopping chain Amazon was fined for selling substandard pressure cookers in this manner.

Amazon was fined by the Central Consumer Protection Authority (CCPA). The fine was Rs. The CCPA had also ordered to take back the sold cookers and refund the money to the consumers.

Another e-commerce chain, Flipkart, has now been fined by the CCPA in a similar manner. Selling substandard cookers is the crime itself. Flipkart also has to pay Rs 1 lakh as penalty. The fine is under the section that violates the rights of consumers. This was the reason why Amazon was also fined.

Flipkart has sold 598 pressure cookers as substandard. All these should be taken back and the customers should be refunded. The CCPA has also asked Flipkart to submit an explanatory report on the incident within 45 days.

In the case of substandard pressure cookers being sold on Amazon, 2,265 cookers were sold from the site. All these were ordered to be taken back and paid to the customers.

Amazon and Flipkart are two of the most popular online shopping sites. Legal action against them is certainly a warning to other business chains. This is a situation that gives them a lot of comfort and at the same time makes them think about the customers.
