Former Jharkhand CM Hemant Soren Arrested, Moves Supreme Court for Relief
Former Chief Minister of Jharkhand, Hemant Soren, was taken into custody by the Enforcement Directorate (ED) on Wednesday night in a money laundering case. This development followed Soren’s resignation from his position as Chief Minister. In the wake of his arrest, state transport minister Champai Soren has been appointed as his successor, demonstrating the party’s continued support for the former leader.
In response to his arrest, Hemant Soren has filed a plea in the Supreme Court, contesting the actions of the Enforcement Directorate. The Supreme Court, led by Chief Justice DY Chandrachud and including Justices JB Pardiwala and Manoj Misra, has agreed to hear Soren’s plea on Friday. Senior lawyers Kapil Sibal and Abhishek Singhvi are representing Soren in the Supreme Court, and they have informed the court of Soren’s intention to withdraw his plea from the Jharkhand High Court regarding the same issue.
Soren’s arrest came after a lengthy interrogation by the Enforcement Directorate, lasting approximately seven hours. This intense scrutiny underscores the seriousness of the allegations against the former Chief Minister. The case has garnered significant attention, with many awaiting further developments as Soren seeks legal redress through the highest court in the country.
