Chinese Couple Executed for Tragic Murder of Two Young Children

In a shocking case that has gripped the nation, Zhang Bo and his girlfriend Ye Chengchen were executed by lethal injection on Wednesday, following their conviction for the murder of Zhang’s two young children. The children, a two-year-old girl and a one-year-old boy, were thrown from the 15th floor of an apartment building by Zhang in 2020, under the influence of Ye, who saw the children as an obstacle in their relationship. This horrific crime, confirmed by China Daily, has sparked widespread outrage across China.

The New York Post reported that Zhang had begun an affair with Ye without disclosing his marital status or the existence of his children. After divorcing his wife, Chen Meilin, in February 2020, Ye pressured Zhang to kill his children. Following the incident, videos on Chinese social media showed Zhang in a state of extreme distress, banging his head against a wall and sobbing uncontrollably. Initially, Zhang told police that the children had accidentally fallen, but the truth of their murder was eventually uncovered.

The brutal nature and premeditation of the crime led to intense public and media attention, with the case becoming a top trending topic on the Chinese social media site Weibo, receiving nearly 200 million views. The children’s mother, Chen, expressed her incomprehensible grief and shock upon learning the devastating fate of her children. The executions of Zhang and Ye, which were carried out more than two years after China’s Supreme Court approved their death sentence, mark a tragic closure to a case that has deeply affected the nation.
