Spanish Tourist Gangraped in Jharkhand: Victim in Stable Condition, Four Arrested
A Spanish national, who was allegedly gangraped in Dumka, Jharkhand, is currently “emotionally shattered” but in stable physical condition, as reported by Anil Kumar Mishra, Dumka’s Principal District Judge (PDJ) and Chairman of the District Legal Services Authority. The incident occurred on Friday night when the woman and her partner, who were on a biking trip, stopped in Dumka. The PDJ’s report to the Jharkhand Legal Services Authority highlighted that the victim has been assured justice, with ongoing medical examinations and a compensation of Rs 10 lakh directed to be paid to her.
Taking suo motu cognizance of the grievous incident, Justice Sujit Narayan Prasad has instructed the police to diligently file investigation reports. So far, four of the seven accused have been apprehended, with efforts ongoing to capture the remaining perpetrators. The Spanish couple has also taken to social media, posting pictures of the accused and appealing for public assistance in their capture, while emphasizing their belief in the goodness of India despite the harrowing experience.
In a heartfelt message shared on social media, the couple addressed the incident and the negative comments they received, underscoring that such tragedies can occur anywhere in the world. They stressed the importance of justice not only for themselves but for all victims of such crimes, reaffirming their strength and resolve to not let this incident define their lives.
