Heron Preston Regains Full Control of Namesake Label, Announces Major Brand Relaunch
New York-based designer Heron Preston has successfully reclaimed full ownership of his eponymous fashion label, marking the beginning of a significant new chapter he describes as a “brand renovation project.” Announcing the move on Instagram, Preston emphasized the critical importance of creative autonomy, stating he “fought hard” to regain control from corporate oversight. “I learned that the only way to be happy in business is to be in control of your vision, fully,” Preston wrote, declaring an end to external interference by noting, “No men in suits controlling my creativity. Now, it’s all me.”
With independence secured, Preston is immediately pivoting toward a comprehensive brand overhaul to align with his specific “vision of improvement.” He acknowledged that the “house needs a refresh” and unveiled plans for the first phase of this relaunch, titled “Foundation, The Blue Line Edit.” While specific release dates remain forthcoming, the designer teased that the collection would be launching soon, promising further updates as he lays the groundwork for the label’s independent future.
The move follows a turbulent period involving the brand’s former parent company, New Guards Group (NGG). Founded in 2016 under the NGG portfolio, the label weathered complex ownership changes involving Farfetch and eventually South Korea’s Coupang. Following NGG’s bankruptcy filing in Italy in late 2024, Preston joined a growing exodus of founders—including those behind Palm Angels and Ambush—who have exited the portfolio. By repurchasing the legal and commercial rights to his trademark, Preston has effectively insulated his work from the group’s financial instability to forge a solo path.
