High Court Petition Filed Against Former RG Kar Medical College Principal Over Alleged Financial Irregularities

Dr. Sandip Ghosh, the former principal of RG Kar Medical College and Hospital, faces serious allegations as his ex-colleague, Akhtar Ali, has moved the Calcutta High Court seeking an Enforcement Directorate (ED) investigation into purported financial irregularities. Justice Rajarshi Bharadwaj has allowed Ali, a former deputy superintendent of the hospital, to file the petition.

Ali has publicly accused Ghosh of involvement in illicit activities, including the trafficking of unclaimed dead bodies and biomedical waste to Bangladesh. He also claims that Ghosh forced students to pay bribes, threatening to fail them in exams if they refused. Despite a probe that reportedly found Ghosh guilty, Ali alleges that he was transferred after submitting his findings to the state’s health department.

In response to these allegations, the Kolkata Police has initiated an investigation, forming a four-member Special Investigation Team (SIT) to probe the financial misconduct at the hospital. The probe follows accusations linking Ghosh to the rape and murder of a postgraduate trainee doctor at RG Kar Medical College, with investigators considering the possibility of a larger conspiracy.
