H&M and Glenn Martens Unveil Avant-Garde Capsule Collection Celebrating Individuality
Swedish fashion retailer H&M has teamed up with Belgian designer Glenn Martens to offer a first look at their highly anticipated collaboration, set to launch on October 30. Ann-Sofie Johansson, H&M’s creative advisor, described the collection as “one of the most creative collaborations we have ever done,” praising Martens as a “true talent and radical thinker.” Drawing inspiration from H&M’s archives, Martens has reimagined classic pieces into womenswear, menswear, and accessories that fuse everyday wear with avant-garde design.
The collection emphasizes individuality and personal style, featuring customizable pieces with hooks and eyes on dresses and jeans, allowing wearers to adjust silhouettes to their liking. Trompe-l’œil effects appear throughout, including prints that mimic knit tops, checked evening gowns, and vintage accessories. Martens’ signature play with volume is evident in oversized jackets, cargo trousers, and over-the-knee boots, while innovative materials like foil linings and adjustable bags enhance functionality and style.
For the first time designing under his own name, Martens incorporates elements from his previous work at Y/Project and Diesel, making high-fashion aesthetics more accessible. Accessories include unconventional belts, dual-frame sunglasses, and steel-toed workwear boots with removable leather uppers. Martens, reflecting on his teenage fascination with H&M in 1990s Bruges, highlighted the collaboration as a full-circle moment, allowing him to select pieces from his own collection to gift loved ones. The range will be available in H&M stores worldwide and online from October 30.
