Holographic Fashion Show Debuts in Amsterdam as European Universities Pioneer Digital Innovation

Twelve European fashion universities collaborated at Fabrique des Lumières in Amsterdam to unveil what organisers call the world’s first holographic fashion show, presented during the Future Front Row X FashionTEX event. Led by the Amsterdam Fashion Academy, the showcase blended physical craftsmanship with advanced digital techniques, featuring holographic storytelling, digital garments, avatars, and 3D-printed elements. The holographic visuals were created by Amsterdam-based digital artist and Future Front Row founder Isabelle Udo, who said the project aimed to make digital fashion feel “more tangible”.

The presentation forms part of the FashionTEX initiative, launched in 2024 to build digital and sustainable competencies among European fashion students. Twenty-four students participated, including three from the Amsterdam Fashion Academy who worked closely with FashionTEX experts and Future Front Row to experiment with new forms of fashion communication. Academy Director Cristiano Carciani said the project reflects the academy’s mission to merge technology with traditional craftsmanship, praising the students for “expanding the boundaries of fashion” through digital tools.

The event drew more than 400 attendees, including industry leaders, digital creators, and alumni. Senior luxury and lifestyle executive Kristina Szasz described the holographic looks as “ethereal and surreal… almost floating on the runway”. The Amsterdam Fashion Academy, part of Luiss Business School, continues to position itself at the forefront of innovation-focused fashion education, while Future Front Row advances holographic runway concepts across global fashion capitals as part of FashionTEX’s three-year European collaboration.
