Italian Court Ends Early Supervision of Valentino Unit Over Labour Concerns

An Italian court has lifted ahead of schedule the special judicial administration imposed on a unit of luxury fashion house Valentino, which had been under scrutiny over labour practices linked to its subcontractors. The decision brings an early end to oversight of Valentino Bags Lab S.r.l., the entity responsible for producing the brand’s accessories line.

The court had placed the unit under a one-year judicial administration in May 2025 after investigations revealed that production had been subcontracted to Chinese-owned firms accused of exploiting workers. In response, Valentino said it had strengthened its governance framework, introduced stricter supplier qualification processes, and enhanced monitoring systems to ensure better control over its supply chain.

The case is part of a broader crackdown by Italian authorities, who have subjected several luxury fashion units to judicial administration or inspections over alleged labour violations in recent years, raising concerns about the sector’s ethical standards. Valentino is controlled by Qatar-backed investment firm Mayhoola, while French luxury group Kering holds a 30% stake in the company.
