Wylie Welling Debuts with Sustainable Reimagining of Carhartt Workwear
A new fashion label, Wylie Welling, founded by Gretchen Valade, is set to make its global debut on April 7, bringing a fresh, sustainable perspective to American workwear. The brand, rooted in the legacy of Carhartt, reinterprets archival garments into unisex designs that emphasize circularity, craftsmanship, and longevity. Valade, the great-great-granddaughter of Hamilton Carhartt, developed the concept through her years working within the company, including her role as director of sustainability.
The debut Spring 2026 collection features one-of-a-kind pieces created from vintage Carhartt garments dating from the 1970s to the early 2000s. Each item is carefully upcycled and customized in Los Angeles and Detroit, breathing new life into heritage workwear through a modern lens. Valade stated that the brand reflects her long-standing commitment to sustainability, aiming to celebrate the history, craftsmanship, and enduring value of each garment.
Wylie Welling will initially launch online, with plans to expand into a physical retail presence later this summer in Detroit’s Little Village neighborhood. The upcoming store is envisioned not just as a retail space, but as a community hub, hosting workshops focused on mending, craftsmanship, and sustainable practices—further reinforcing the brand’s mission to promote circular fashion and conscious consumption.
