Karnataka Deputy Chief Minister Denies Bribery Allegations in Garbage Disposal Tender

Karnataka’s Deputy Chief Minister, D K Shivakumar, vehemently refuted allegations of corruption regarding a ₹94,000 crore tender for garbage disposal, involving a blacklisted company. Addressing media queries near his residence in Sadashivanagar, Shivakumar challenged accusations of accepting a ₹15,000 crore bribe, emphasizing the impossibility of awarding contracts without due tender processes. He clarified that the matter is sub judice, highlighting ongoing efforts to resolve Bangalore’s solid waste management challenges, including finding alternative disposal sites like near Nice Road and engaging in discussions with relevant stakeholders.

Shivakumar underscored the procedural hurdles faced, citing legal complexities and efforts to relocate garbage disposal units from Bangalore’s vicinity. He emphasized the need for comprehensive consultations with the Chief Minister and Cabinet before making decisions impacting public projects in Bangalore. Additionally, he addressed improvements in water sharing with Tamil Nadu, indicating ongoing efforts to address regional environmental and infrastructure challenges.
