Kejriwal Urges PM Modi to Include Jats in Central OBC List, Alleges Betrayal
Delhi Chief Minister and AAP chief Arvind Kejriwal has written to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, urging the inclusion of the Jat community in the Central OBC list to ensure reservation benefits in education and employment. Highlighting the disparity, he pointed out that while Jats from Rajasthan receive these benefits, those in Delhi are excluded from central institutions like Delhi University and government jobs. He accused the BJP of betraying the Jat community for the past decade and using them for political gains during election periods.
Addressing a press conference, Kejriwal criticized the central government’s alleged “biased attitude” toward the Jats and five other OBC castes, emphasizing the need for corrective action. He noted that Delhi’s Jat community, comprising 8-10% of the electorate, has been denied access to opportunities in central universities, Delhi Police, and other institutions under the central government. Kejriwal claimed the BJP’s promises to the Jat community remain unfulfilled, causing injustice to thousands of OBC youths in Delhi.
Ahead of the Delhi Assembly elections scheduled for February 5, Kejriwal announced plans to meet the Election Commission to address alleged voter list irregularities, accusing the BJP of attempting to remove Dalits, slum dwellers, and Poorvanchalis. Accompanied by Punjab CM Bhagwant Mann, Delhi CM Atishi, and MP Sanjay Singh, he stressed the contest in Delhi remains a direct battle between AAP and the BJP. The counting of votes will take place on February 8.
