Kochi Biennale Foundation Appoints Thomas Varghese as New CEO
The Kochi Biennale Foundation has appointed Thomas Varghese as its new chief executive officer (CEO), marking a significant step in the organization’s leadership restructuring. Varghese, a Kochi resident with international credentials, brings extensive experience from his prior role at the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia-Pacific in Bangkok, where he focused on sustainable urban development and project management. He holds degrees from St Stephen’s College in Delhi and Harvard University in the USA, giving him a strong foundation in both local and global perspectives.
Dr. Venu V, chairperson of the Kochi Biennale Foundation, expressed optimism about the appointment and the broader structural changes, emphasizing that these efforts are intended to align the foundation with international standards. Bose Krishnamachari, president of the Kochi-Muziris Biennale, echoed this enthusiasm, highlighting the completion of the restructuring process as an ideal foundation for growth.
In his inaugural remarks as CEO, Varghese expressed gratitude for the opportunity, saying, “It is an honour to be part of the foundation’s next chapter and to build on its rich legacy.” This leadership transition is expected to bring a renewed focus to the foundation’s objectives, particularly in enhancing the Kochi Biennale’s global impact.
