Letter threatens bomb blasts in Indore if Bharat Jodo Yatra participants stay at city stadium; probe launched

The Bharat Jodo Yatra participants led by Rahul Gandhi were planned to spend the night at a nearby stadium on November 28, thus the police opened an investigation after receiving a letter threatening to carry out bomb blasts in the city, an official said on Friday.

He added that police believe the threat was a hoax and have filed a case against an unnamed person in this regard.

H C Mishra, the commissioner of police in Indore, told PTI that a sweets shop in the city’s Juni area had received a letter on Thursday night warning of bomb blasts if Rahul Gandhi’s yatra’s participants stayed at the Khalsa stadium. The anonymous letter does not directly speak about targeting Gandhi using the bomb, he added.

“We have started an investigation into the threat letter. However, we suspect that this act was done by some mischievous elements,” Mishra said.

Nilabh Shukla, the state congress secretary, called for an investigation into the letter and emphasised the necessity for more robust security measures during the Bharat Jodo Yatra.

On November 20, the march’s entry into Madhya Pradesh will take place while it is still in Maharashtra.
