L’Oréal Acquires Majority Stake in Medik8 to Bolster Science-Driven Skincare Portfolio
L’Oréal has acquired a majority stake in British skincare brand Medik8, reinforcing its commitment to the rapidly growing dermocosmetics segment. The move marks a strategic return to high-impact beauty mergers and acquisitions, following a relatively quiet period in the sector. While the financial terms remain undisclosed, the deal includes private equity firm Inflexion retaining a minority share, with Medik8 founder Elliot Isaacs and CEO Simon Coble continuing in their leadership roles.
Medik8, known for its science-backed skincare products and sustainable practices, will now tap into L’Oréal’s expansive R&D capabilities, global distribution channels, and product development expertise. L’Oréal’s dermocosmetics division—which includes La Roche-Posay, Cerave, Vichy, and Skinceuticals—has seen robust growth, generating €7 billion in 2024. This acquisition is set further to strengthen the group’s foothold in performance-driven skincare markets.
Industry experts view the acquisition as a significant step, both for L’Oréal and for the broader beauty M&A landscape. With Medik8’s strong presence in English-speaking markets, the partnership is expected to accelerate global expansion, particularly into high-growth regions such as the Middle East. Analysts also predict the brand could enter new product categories like scalp care, supported by L’Oréal’s state-of-the-art labs and innovation ecosystem.
