Malayalam Actor Siddique Seeks Anticipatory Bail Amid Rape Allegations
Malayalam actor Siddique has approached the Kerala High Court seeking anticipatory bail in connection with a rape case filed against him by a female actor. The case comes amid the ongoing Me Too movement, which has rocked the Malayalam film industry, leading to serious allegations against several prominent figures, including Siddique.
The complaint was lodged in Thiruvananthapuram, where the police registered an FIR based on the actor’s accusation that Siddique had lured her to a hotel under the guise of discussing a film project, which ultimately turned out to be a pretext for sexual assault. The victim shared her traumatic experience publicly, detailing the abuse and the mental distress she endured, which led her to abandon her dreams in the industry.
In light of these allegations, Siddique recently stepped down as the Association of Malayalam Movie Artistes (AMMA) general secretary along with its entire 17-member executive committee. The allegations surfaced shortly after the Justice Hema Committee report was released, exposing widespread sexual harassment and exploitation of women within the industry.
