MP High Court Orders CBI to Investigate All Nursing Colleges Affiliated with MPNRC

In a significant development, the Madhya Pradesh High Court has directed the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) to extend its probe to all nursing colleges affiliated with the Madhya Pradesh Nursing Registration Council (MPNRC). The directive came during a hearing by a division bench comprising Justice Sanjay Dwivedi and Justice AK Paliwal, which also entertained the possibility of the High Court conducting investigations if deemed necessary. The decision follows the presentation of an investigation report on 308 nursing colleges by the CBI, which was submitted in a closed envelope last month.

The court’s intervention was prompted by a petition highlighting that approximately 200 nursing colleges in the state had yet to be investigated by the CBI, particularly those offering diploma courses under MPNRC’s affiliation. Petitioners expressed concerns over the adherence to prescribed criteria by newly recognized colleges, prompting the court to order a comprehensive investigation into the matter. The petition, initiated by the Law Student Association, raised alarms over the recognition of 55 nursing colleges in tribal-dominated areas for the academic session 2020-21, which allegedly existed only on paper, lacking basic infrastructure and proper faculty.

Responding to the court’s order, the CBI informed about the establishment of a committee led by the Vice Chancellor of the Medical University to address the irregularities found during the probe and to take corrective actions against the implicated colleges. The committee also includes the Director of Medical Education and two deans from the Medical College. Amidst these developments, the High Court has scheduled further hearings to deliberate on related applications, including permission to conduct examinations that have been on hold for the past two years due to the ongoing investigation.
