Navjot Singh Sidhu Returns to Cricket Commentary Ahead of IPL and Lok Sabha Elections

In a surprising turn of events nearly two months before the Lok Sabha elections in Punjab, Navjot Singh Sidhu, the cricketer-turned-politician, is set to make a comeback in the cricket commentary box. Star Sports, on their X social media platform, excitedly announced that Sidhu would join the commentary team for the upcoming Indian Premier League (IPL), starting March 22. The channel heralded his return with the phrase, “Sardar of commentary box is back,” signaling enthusiasm for his much-anticipated commentary stint.

Navjot Singh Sidhu, known for his multifaceted career, has served as a three-time Lok Sabha MP from Amritsar, a Rajya Sabha MP, an MLA from Amritsar East, and a former cabinet minister. Despite his significant political career, Sidhu has announced that he will not be contesting in the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, while the Congress party has yet to announce its candidates for the 13 seats in Punjab, which will go to the polls on June 1.

Sidhu’s political journey has not been without its share of controversies, especially noted by his absence from events led by Punjab Congress chief Amrinder Singh Raja Warring and opposition leader Partap Singh Bajwa. Instead, Sidhu has been active in the state’s political scene through parallel shows of strength, accompanied by a group of Congress leaders loyal to him. His return to cricket commentary marks a significant shift from his recent political activities and showcases his versatile career that also includes stints as a television personality and motivational speaker.
