NCW Demands Action Against Congress Leaders for Derogatory Posts Against Kangana Ranaut

The National Commission for Women (NCW) has called for strict action against Congress spokesperson Supriya Shrinate and leader HS Ahir for allegedly making derogatory social media posts about actor Kangana Ranaut. The commission expressed deep concern over the remarks, which were directed at Ranaut regarding her Lok Sabha poll candidature, and emphasized that such comments perpetuate misogyny and disrespect towards women. NCW Chairperson Smt Rekha Sharma has written to the Election Commission of India, demanding immediate action and a report within three days.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the NCW condemned the disrespectful nature of the comments, highlighting the need for responsibility and respect on social media platforms to maintain a safe and respectful online environment. The commission reaffirmed its commitment to upholding women’s rights and dignity, promising to take decisive action against any form of harassment or derogatory behavior.

The controversy began with a post from Shrinate’s Instagram handle, which she claims was made by someone else given that multiple people have access to her social media accounts. Ahir provided a similar explanation for his involvement. The BJP has urged the Congress to address the issue, but the party has yet to respond. NCW’s Rekha Sharma stressed the seriousness with which the commission views the incident, especially the use of derogatory language by one woman against another, and has called for an apology to Ranaut from the involved parties.
