Modi Addresses Sandeshkhali Concerns with BJP Candidate Rekha Patra

In a notable conversation, Prime Minister Narendra Modi spoke with the Bharatiya Janata Party’s (BJP) Basirhat candidate, Rekha Patra, about the pressing Sandeshkhali issue, as reported by the news agency PTI. Modi, referring to Patra as ‘Shakti swaroopa’, a term that denotes a powerful feminine force, inquired about her campaign’s progress and the support she has garnered for the BJP in her constituency. This interaction underscores Modi’s engagement with key electoral issues and his party’s candidates in the run-up to the elections.

During the discussion, Patra brought to light the severe challenges faced by the women in Sandeshkhali. She alleged that the residents of Sandeshkhali have been systematically prevented from voting since 2011, suggesting a significant suppression of democratic rights in the area. Her claims shed light on the gravity of the situation in Sandeshkhali, highlighting the obstacles to free and fair elections in the region.

Responding to Patra’s concerns, Prime Minister Modi assured her that the grievances she raised would be communicated to the Election Commission of India to ensure that all necessary steps are taken for conducting fair and transparent voting. Patra, who has been vocal against the alleged atrocities by former Trinamool Congress (TMC) strongman Shajahan Sheikh and his aides, represents the BJP’s stance against political violence and electoral malpractice in West Bengal. Her candidature from the Basirhat seat, which includes the troubled Sandeshkhali village, marks a significant moment in the BJP’s efforts to address and combat electoral issues in the state.
