PM Modi Conducts Aerial Survey of Landslide-Hit Areas in North Kerala
Prime Minister Narendra Modi conducted an aerial survey of disaster-stricken areas in north Kerala on Saturday, where devastating landslides have claimed hundreds of lives. Accompanied by Kerala Governor Arif Mohammed Khan, Chief Minister Pinarayi Vijayan, and Union Minister of State Suresh Gopi, PM Modi surveyed the worst-hit regions of Chooralmala, Mundakkai, and Punchirimattom. The Prime Minister’s helicopter departed from Kannur Airport at around 11:15 AM, heading towards Wayanad.
Following the aerial survey, PM Modi is scheduled to land at SKMJ Higher Secondary School in Kalpetta and then visit some of the affected areas by road. The Kerala government has already requested ₹2,000 crore in assistance for the disaster-hit region’s ongoing rehabilitation and relief efforts.
The landslides, which occurred on July 30, have led to the deaths of at least 226 people, with many still unaccounted for. The calamity is considered one of the most severe natural disasters to have struck Kerala in recent history.
