PM Modi Launches ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’ to Provide Free Electricity to 1 Crore Households

In a significant move towards sustainable development, Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced the launch of ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’. Aimed at lighting up one crore households across the country, this ambitious scheme promises to deliver up to 300 units of free electricity every month to each beneficiary. The project, which is expected to see an investment of over ₹75,000 crore, is a part of the government’s ongoing efforts to promote the use of renewable energy sources and ensure the well-being of its citizens.

The scheme involves direct subsidies to beneficiaries’ bank accounts and offers heavily concessional bank loans to ensure that the beneficiaries do not bear any financial burden. PM Modi emphasized the integration of all stakeholders through a National Online Portal, which will facilitate the seamless implementation of the scheme. Urban local bodies and panchayats are also being incentivized to promote the adoption of rooftop solar systems within their jurisdictions, highlighting the government’s commitment to making solar power a cornerstone of India’s energy strategy.

Highlighting the benefits of the ‘PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana’, PM Modi stated that the initiative is not just about providing free electricity but also about generating income, reducing power bills, and creating employment opportunities. He urged all residential consumers, especially the youth, to support and strengthen the scheme by applying through the official website. This initiative is expected to play a crucial role in India’s journey towards achieving its sustainable development goals and reducing its carbon footprint.
