Prajwal Revanna Sent to 6-Day SIT Custody in Karnataka Sex Scandal
Prajwal Revanna, the suspended JD(S) MP, has been sent to six-day custody under the Special Investigation Team (SIT) following his arrest at Bengaluru airport. Revanna, who had been incommunicado for a month amidst serious allegations of sexual assault, was apprehended upon his arrival from Germany. The Ministry of External Affairs had initiated the revocation of his diplomatic passport just as the scandal surfaced. During his custody, his lawyers will be permitted to meet him for one hour each morning.
Revanna’s detention marks a significant development in the ongoing investigation of a high-profile sex scandal involving multiple allegations of sexual assault against him. Despite his lawyers asserting his willingness to cooperate, the SIT sought his custody for further investigation. Karnataka Home Minister G. Parameshwara has urged other potential victims to come forward without fear. Revanna’s arrest was executed by an all-woman police team, led by IPS officers Suman D Pennekar and Seema Latkar, to emphasize the severity of the accusations and to symbolically support the alleged victims.
The 33-year-old, who won the Lok Sabha election from Hassan in 2019, has seen his political career and family reputation crumble over the past month. His father was arrested and released on bail, and his grandfather, former PM H.D. Deve Gowda, publicly appealed for his return to India to face the investigation. Revanna’s case continues to unfold as the SIT plans further examinations, including a potency test, to substantiate the sexual assault charges against him.
