Prime Minister Modi Inaugurates Projects Worth ₹35,700 Crore in Jharkhand
In a significant development aimed at boosting the nation’s self-reliance in fertilizer production, Prime Minister Narendra Modi today inaugurated and laid the foundation for projects totaling ₹35,700 crore in Jharkhand. Among these, the highlight was the dedication of the ₹8,900-crore fertilizer plant of Hindustan Urvarak & Rasayan Ltd in Sindri, Dhanbad district. This plant is set to enhance India’s urea production by approximately 12.7 lakh metric tonnes (LMT) per annum, directly benefiting the country’s farmers.
The Sindri facility marks the third fertilizer plant to be revived in India, following the successful revitalization of similar units in Gorakhpur and Ramagundam, which were inaugurated by the Prime Minister in December 2021 and November 2022, respectively. Since 2014, India’s urea production has witnessed a significant increase from 225 lakh tonnes to the current 310 lakh tonnes, underlining the nation’s strides toward fertilizer self-sufficiency.
In addition to the fertilizer plant, Prime Minister Modi also launched rail, power, and coal projects worth over ₹26,000 crore in Jharkhand, further emphasizing the government’s commitment to development in the region. Modi remarked on the occasion, “Jharkhand received projects worth over ₹35,000 crore as a gift today. The revival of the Sindri fertilizer plant was a promise made and fulfilled, propelling India toward urea self-dependence.”
