Rahul Gandhi Granted Bail in Defamation Case Filed by BJP Leader

In a recent development, Congress leader Rahul Gandhi was granted bail by the Sultanpur court on Tuesday in a defamation case dating back to 2018. The case was initiated by BJP leader Vijay Mishra, who accused Gandhi of making derogatory remarks against then Home Minister Amit Shah during a press conference in Bengaluru. Gandhi, who appeared in court, was taken into custody for a brief period of 30-45 minutes before his bail application was accepted, as stated by his advocate Santosh Pandey.

Pandey mentioned that Gandhi surrendered to the court willingly and after the brief custody, his bail was processed. While the court has yet to schedule a further hearing, the advocate emphasized Gandhi’s innocence, denying any defamatory statements made by him. If found guilty, Gandhi could face a maximum sentence of two years, as per the legal proceedings.

The case has stirred political circles, given its significance and the high-profile individuals involved. Vijay Mishra, expressing his distress over Gandhi’s comments made five years ago, highlighted the gravity of the accusations against Amit Shah. The legal battle, which has been ongoing for almost five years, underscores the intense political rivalry and the legal scrutiny faced by politicians in India.
