Reliance Industries to Launch ‘Hanooman’ AI Model Next Month, Aiming to Revolutionize Local Language Computing

In a significant move to boost India’s presence in the global AI race, Reliance Industries, led by Mukesh Ambani, has announced the launch of ‘Hanooman’, an AI model designed to cater to the diverse linguistic landscape of India. Developed in collaboration with eight affiliated universities, including the prestigious Indian Institutes of Technology (IITs), Hanooman is set to transform the way Indians interact with technology in local languages.

The model, named after the revered Indian mythological figure, will offer services in 11 local languages, focusing on sectors critical for the nation’s progress: healthcare, governance, financial services, and education. In a recent showcase, the versatility of Hanooman was on full display, demonstrating its capability to understand and interact in languages such as Tamil and Hindi, and even assist in writing computer code.

Behind the scenes, Hanooman is being powered by a robust collaboration between Reliance and various startups, including Sarvam and Krutrim, supported by renowned venture capitalist firms like Lightspeed Venture Partners and Vinod Khosla’s fund. With the backing of Reliance Jio Infocomm Ltd, the project also aims to integrate speech-to-text capabilities, making technology more accessible and user-friendly for India’s vast population. As part of its broader vision, Reliance is also developing Jio Brain, a platform that leverages AI across its network of approximately 450 million subscribers, promising a future where technology speaks everyone’s language.
