Vidya Balan Fights Back Against Impersonation: Legal Action Initiated Over Fake Social Media Accounts

In a bold move to safeguard her identity and integrity, renowned actress Vidya Balan has taken decisive legal steps by complaining to the Khar police. The complaint centers around the unauthorized creation of fake email, Instagram, and WhatsApp accounts bearing her name. These fraudulent accounts have been actively used by an unidentified scammer to solicit money from individuals within the entertainment sector, falsely promising them work opportunities.

The scam came to light when a designer, previously collaborated with by Balan, received a dubious WhatsApp message in January from someone purporting to be the actress herself. The message expressed a desire to work with the designer, inviting him for further discussion. Alarmed by the unexpected approach, the designer promptly reached out to Balan, unveiling the scam. The Khar police, upon receiving Balan’s complaint, revealed that similar reports of impersonation had been made by others within the industry, with some even reporting demands for money from the imposter.

In response to the complaint, authorities have commenced a thorough investigation, charging the unidentified imposter under relevant sections of the Information Technology Act.
