Small relief to Congress chief, VP in National Herald case

A Delhi court has postponed the hearing date of the Congress chief Sonia Gandhi and Vice-President Rahul Gandhi on the National Herald case over the review petition filed by the senior congress leader. Earlier, a Delhi court had summoned the top congress leaders on a financial fraud case filed by the senior BJP leader Subramanian Swamy.

Through the petition, Swamy alleges that the top congress leaders had committed a financial fraud related to the National Herald’s transactions.    Followed by that, on early this month, the court had summoned the top congress leaders along with four other accused. The incident has interrupted the winter session of the Parliament, and the congress lawmakers allege that the case was a politically motivated one.

Meanwhile, Sonia Gandhi said she was not scared of any case. Media reports say that, the congress would file a petition at the Supreme Court to challenge the lower court proceedings. The newspaper, which was ceased on 2008, had personal assets worth millions; the petitioner claims the property was illegally acquired by the Congress leaders. While defending the postponed plea, Swamy asserts the Gandhi’s had been informed about the appearance in prior. And he added that there was no need for a personal consideration. However, the new political development is likely to interrupt the coming Parliament sessions too. Again the power politics is smashing the key bills. If the Good and Service tax is not going to pass in this session, then the major reforms will face a setback.
