Smoked In “Dummy” Plane: Influencer After Airline Shared Flight Number

Bobby Kataria, a social media star who is being investigated by the authorities for allegedly smoking inside a SpiceJet plane, has maintained that it was a fake plane. His assertion, however, conflicts with the airline’s statement, which acknowledged that the incident had occurred on one of its planes in January of this year.

“The video in which I was seen smoking was a dummy plane and that was a part of my shooting in Dubai. Taking lighter inside the plane is not allowed,” said the social media influencer in his clarification, according to news agency ANI.

In a video, Mr. Kataria, a Gurgaon resident with more than 6.30 lakh followers, can be seen slouching on the aeroplane seat, lighting a cigarette, and taking a few drags. Social media users shared the video extensively and alerted Union Aviation Minister Jyotiraditya Scindia to it. There will be “no tolerance toward such risky behaviour,” the minister declared yesterday.

A SpiceJet spokeswoman stated in a statement issued Tuesday that the incident had been thoroughly examined in January and that a Gurgaon Police complaint had been made.

According to the airline, the traveller was placed on a no-fly list in February for a period of 15 days.

Mr. Kataria recently criticised the media for attempting to improve Television Rating Point (TRP), which gauges a show’s popularity, at his expense. “TRP alone is required. Talk about anything to keep politicians interested “he wrote in Hindi.

In India, smoking is prohibited in passenger aircraft. Smoking in the pressurised cabin of an aircraft not only inconveniences passengers but also significantly increases the risk of fire.

The Instagram star is also the subject of a police investigation for reportedly imbibing on alcohol on a busy Uttarakhand road.
