Start-Up Founder Arrested After Allegedly Murdering Son, Found Traveling with Body

Suchana Seth, the 39-year-old CEO of Bengaluru-based AI start-up Mindful AI Lab, was arrested in Karnataka’s Chitradurga after being found with the body of her four-year-old son. The shocking incident unfolded after Seth checked into a hotel in North Goa’s Candolim with her son over the weekend. On Monday, she checked out alone, prompting suspicion among hotel staff who noticed the child was missing. Subsequent investigation revealed bloodstains in the apartment Seth occupied, leading the Goa police to intervene.

Following Seth’s departure in a taxi destined for Bengaluru, hotel staff reported the missing child and bloodstains to the Goa police. When questioned, Seth claimed her son was with a friend, providing a false address. Sensing deception, the police discreetly instructed the taxi driver, diverting the vehicle to Chitradurga’s police station. There, Seth was apprehended, and the tragic discovery of her son’s body was made in the bag she carried. Her husband, Venkat Raman, an AI developer, rushed to the scene upon receiving the police’s call.

Despite Seth’s notable accolades within the AI community, including recognition among the “100 Brilliant Women in AI Ethics for 2021” and her credentials as a fellow at Harvard University’s Berkman Klein Centre, her arrest has stunned many. Authorities are yet to determine the motive behind this harrowing incident as the investigation continues, with Seth being taken back to Goa for further questioning.
