Term ‘Batsman’ changed to ‘Batter’: MCC promotes gender neutrality

The word ‘batsman’, who is often referred to as the one who bats in cricket; Instead, the general term ‘batter’, which does not reveal gender, will be used.

The decision was taken by the Marliban Cricket Club (MCC), which is also a cricket reform committee. The MCC, the owners of the famous Lord’s Cricket Stadium in London and the world’s most active cricket club, has the final say in the rules of cricket.

The decision was taken in view of the increasing number and popularity of women’s cricket matches. When England beat India in the final of the Women’s World Cup in 2017, the gallery in Lodz was packed.

Last year, 80,000 people turned out to watch the India – Australia match in the Women’s Twenty20 World Cup final in Melbourne, Australia. Women’s cricket has been included in next year’s Commonwealth Games in the UK. Former England captain Claire Connor will take over as MCC’s first female president next month.
