Vistara Fined ₹ 70 Lakh For Not Operating Mandated Flights To Northeast

The Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA), which oversees civil aviation, fined Air Vistara 70 lakh for failing to run the required minimum number of flights to the nation’s northeastern underserved districts.

The penalty was assessed in October of last year since the requirements had not been followed in April of 2022. According to a DGCA representative, the airline has already paid the penalties.

In response, a Vistara representative stated: “Over the past few years, Vistara has adhered strictly to the RDGs (Route Dispersal Guidelines). In fact, as required by the RDG rule, we have routinely deployed more ASKMs than necessary in the different categories.”

However, the spokesperson acknowledged that some flights had to be cancelled as a result of Bagdogra airport’s closure, resulting in a mere 0.01 percent fewer flights than needed in April 2022. (short by just one flight).

Regional Connectivity Scheme UDAN (Ude Desh ka Aam Nagrik), the Ministry of Civil Aviation’s flagship programme, has already run for five years. In April 2017, the initial flight was launched.

With improved aviation infrastructure and air connectivity in Tier II and Tier III cities, the initiative was launched in October 2016 with the aim of achieving the objectives of the average person.
