Veteran Politician Baba Siddique Leaves Congress After 48 Years

In a move that has taken the political circles by surprise, former Maharashtra minister Baba Siddique announced his resignation from the Indian National Congress on Thursday. Siddique, who has been a stalwart member of the Congress for nearly five decades, made his decision public through a post on social media platform X (formerly known as Twitter). His departure marks the end of an era for the Congress in Maharashtra, where Siddique has been a prominent figure.

Baba Siddique’s political journey with the Congress spans 48 years, beginning in his teenage years. In his resignation message, Siddique expressed his gratitude towards the party and the experiences he gained during his long tenure. “I joined the Indian National Congress party as a young teenager and it has been a significant journey lasting 48 years. Today I resign from the primary membership of the Indian National Congress Party with immediate effect,” Siddique wrote, highlighting his deep-rooted association with the party.

The former minister chose to keep the reasons for his resignation concise, stating, “There’s a lot I would have liked to express but as they say some things are better left unsaid.” This has led to speculation about the underlying factors that influenced his decision. Nonetheless, Siddique thanked everyone who has been a part of his long political journey, leaving a legacy of service and commitment to the Congress party. His resignation is seen as a significant loss for the Congress, reflecting the changing dynamics within the party and the broader political landscape in Maharashtra.
